Spacial vs. Navigational

One of the recurring threads on the Gnome usability mailing list is the navigational vs. spatial debate - should nautilus (or indeed, any file manager) have one and only one representation of a given directory, or should the file manager have a view that changes, allowing navigation through the hierarchy? David Feldman provided a link into his interesting and balanced article, debating the merits of both. Well worth a read.
